Commitment to Cook Continues to Help Community

Lamar Wainwright
Flint Energies

Lamar Wainwright personifies what the Power & Hope recognition is all about. Not only does he demonstrate his ownership and love for the cooperative and our people everyday as Manager of Automotive, he leaps forward to help the community and those in need.

This Spring, Lamar almost singlehandedly sold over 500 tickets - purchased, washed, barbecued and served 250 chickens - in an effort to raise funds for a local grocery store employee diagnosed with cancer and with no insurance. During the Summer, he noticed a local pharmacist calling for help following a robbery, and Lamar not only chased the thief into a local church, but also caught and held the criminal until the Police arrived.

Over the course of 22 years of work with Flint, there are many, many, many other examples. There are few charitable events for the “Flint Family,” that do not involve a smoking chicken or pork loin - with a side of sausage and always features Lamar nearby with red eyes, new leather gloves on and a pump up sprayer filled with sauce in his hands. In fact, when tornados struck Taylor County on March 1,2007 - resulting in the total destruction of Lamar’s son’s home - he was still uptown on March 2nd living up to his commitment to cook for a chickenque to help a self-employed carpenter facing hardships.
